What the app keeps

The receipts and invoices you add: photos, scans, PDFs and files shared from other apps; the text read from them; and what you confirm, such as merchant, amount, date, GST, payment method, items and categories.

A few settings too, such as the month your financial year starts.

Where it is kept

On your device, in the app's private storage.

If your device is signed in to iCloud, the app also keeps the same content in your private iCloud database (CloudKit), so your other devices signed in to the same Apple Account see it. That database belongs to your Apple Account and we cannot see it; Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy apply to it. Without iCloud, everything stays on the device.

Your device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) include it as well.

How receipts are read

On your device, with Apple's text recognition and, where your device supports it, the on-device model of Apple Intelligence. This version does not send receipts or their text anywhere to be read.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no account and no sign-in, no analytics, advertising or tracking, no third-party SDKs, and the app does not use your location.

If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may pass crash reports on to us. They describe where the app failed, not your receipts.

Exports and archives

Only when you ask. An export (CSV files, with the originals if you choose) or an archive (every record and original, in one zip file) is made on your device and goes wherever you send it with the share sheet: Files, email, AirDrop, your accountant.

Archives are not encrypted; keep them somewhere you trust. The app removes its own temporary copies.

Sharing to the app

When you share a PDF or image to PWE Receipts from another app, the share extension copies that file into the app's storage on your device. It reads nothing else.

Deleting

Deleting a record in the app deletes its original too, and removes both from your iCloud when it is on.

Deleting the app removes what is on the device; what is in your iCloud stays until you delete it in the app or in iCloud storage management in iOS Settings.

Children

PWE Receipts is not directed at children.

If anything changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
